Awkward & Awesome.

Awkward:

-My nose, upper lip, and chin peeling. So I got a little sun burnt.

-The teenage hula dancers practicing right outside my front door.

-Our connection in LAX on the way home. It was nightmare-ish. And I cried.

-Jumping into a pool wrapped up in your towel (more on that later).

-Real Housewives of anything. For some reason I watch a few when they're on, but there is something so obnoxious about grown women yelling at, throwing drinks on, and backstabbing each other. GAH!!

Awesome:

-The magic show we went to at our resort. I'm always skeptical going into it, but about 30 seconds into it my jaw has permanently dropped.

-Room service was an additional fee of $5 total. So we ordered the whole menu at 10PM.

-Eating a home cooked meal! I always forget how much better a home cooked meal is until I eat one after eating out for days and days.

Hi new friends! I am Hayley, and I blog over at The Weekend File. I am filling in for Sarah while she is off having fun in the Cabo sun! I love Sarah's blog and all of her cute outfits and it is weird how her and I are so similar in our life and style so it only seems fitting I am pitching in while she is away! You wont even notice she's gone... kidding!

I live with my boyfriend of 7 years, Geoff, and puppy of 9 months, Lewis. We are one little happy family. We live in Southern California and are currently getting ready to buy our first house! It is going to be a ton of work, and a ton of fun and we cant wait. Oh, and did I mention we are moving less then 5 miles from the beach? Yeah, I have my beach cruiser and bikini all ready to go!!

I started blogging about 6 months ago and have been having the best time! My blog is like my little hobby, my creative outlet, and has almost turned into another part time job! I love meeting so many nice ladies all over the world and just love being challenged and inspired when I get dressed each and every day. In 6 months I have seen my style change so much from my routine of skinny jeans, a cute top, and a sweater to really trying to push myself outside of the box and mix it up. Getting dressed now seems like less of a task and more of a fun experiment every morning!

It's time for awkward and awesome thursday once again!

Awkward:

-Walking to the car from the cafe, but some of our friends are far behind. I tell the others to go on to the car and I'll stand on the corner and wave our slow friends in the right direction. Ian responds by saying "No wife of mine is gonna be standing on a street corner!!!" I swear, even when I purposely word my sentences to avoid any sly remarks, the husband always finds a way to embarrass me!!!

-Taking my Mexican food into the Sushi restaurant. 

-Eating that Mexican food with chopsticks because they didn't have any forks.

-Volvos that have wipers on the headlights... really???

-When people jog in normal clothes.

-When the nice old man at the Chinese restaurant carried my takeout to the car for me and buckled it into my passenger seat. 

- Walking into the men's restroom at the pool. It was one of those moments where you look around to make sure no one saw you, but instead the kind woman that witnessed my little mix-up guided me to the door on the right. I wasn't at the pool much longer.

-Parking next to a car that has someone in it. Just sitting there. In the drivers seat. That seriously ALWAYS happens to me. And they usually have their window down. Do I look at them? Or do I avoid eye contact? Do I say hi when they have their window down? I JUST DON'T KNOW.

-Trying on hundreds of hats in one store and none of them fitting me. And then walking out of that same store having purchased a men's hat size large. If the shoe hat fits, right?

-The haunted house we toured with our realtor. Let's just say that one was crossed off our list!

Awesome:

-Holding a little tiny baby chick at work!

-Waking up to breakfast in bed.

-Free entertainment from the big man next to me at the pool. He was singing some rendition of E-40's "Stilettos and Jeans". The only reason I know the song is because those seemed to be the only lyrics he knew, so they were easy to find in google. Now that I see the picture of E-40 (if that's even a real name) the guy by the pool actually looks like him. 

-When Ian came home with Flowers, my favorite magazine, candies, and other treats! I swear I married an angel!

-When all four of the things I ordered online actually fit me!

-The fact that I am in Cabo as you are reading this.... have to rub it in! 

packing light.

I've previously mentioned how much I've been bouncing around lately. I've been rolling around my tiny tiara-patterned duffle and practically living out of the darn thing for the last month. During that time--actually, before--I've taught myself to pack much lighter than I used to. I was always the girl hauling around a HUGE suitcase... like, the biggest size they make.


Shocked? 

At first I was nervous about lugging it around with me everywhere, but now she's like my best friend! 

And now I don't have cross my fingers and peek out one eye when Ian assists me in maneuvering the darn thing onto the scale at the airport. 

I wish I had a five-step process for packing light, but all I've got is: 

Pack only what you need. 

And don't be afraid to wear something more than once. 

I used to think that I had to pack "options" so I could dress off my mood. Welp, turns out when I know what I'm wearing (because I'm short on options) I'm usually in the mood to wear what I've planned.

And since I recruited the husband to pack light we are saving $80! 

(I'm sooo against paying for things I shouldn't have to pay for. Especially when they are overpriced and you  are already paying hundreds of dollars for the plane ticket.)

Oh, and I found Michael Phelps in my closet...

And this is just me.

Nicknames are so funny. And they are so specific to the people in your life.

Ian and I have the oddest nicknames for each other.

And we never call each other by our first names. 

I call him:

E- Bear

Salty Peanut

Lance

Boyfriend

Sugar Bean

He calls me:

Baby

Pumpkin Pants
Margaret

Squooshy Cheeks

Sweet Thing

Girly

I also nickname pretty much everyone else I know.

It's just easier that way.

Ian's been teasing me lately. I can never make up my mind! 

Well I do, but then I just change my little mind right back up again! 

He's been saying "Girls are so hot and cold!" 

(His grandpa just said that when we were visiting, so I think that's where he got it.)

But he's right.

Take tonight for example: 

- I tell Ian to take me on a fun date downtown.

- Ten minutes later, I decide in my mind that I don't want to go out to dinner.

- I'm craving cereal.

-I eat a brownie.

- I tell Ian I don't want to go out.

- I start craving the cafe down the street.

- We go there.

I realize this makes it sound like I'm pregnant, but I am not. If I am then you can expect to see me on TLC's "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" in about a year??? It's hard to gage a timeframe since I don't know how far along I am...

Ian and I are so bad at fighting with each other. 

We kind of have a system down for how we make decisions and stuff like that, so we rarely disagree.

But when we do it lasts for like six minutes. 

We either start laughing, or we kiss and make up if you know what I mean...(yes, I just said that). 

Maybe one day I'll pick a fight just for the kisses.

I suppose it's a good thing that we're lousy fighters. 

That must mean we love each other, or something.

This is not that cute of an outfit, but it has been way too long since my last post.

Last weekend we went to the beach with a bunch of people from the college group and the weather was BEAUTS.

It's great to be home for the next ten days and then we go to CABO!!!! 

Yays.

Tomorrow will be my first day off in 22 days. Not only off of work, but off of life.

Sometimes you need time off from life.

I mean, I'll still be alive and stuff (Lord willing) but I'll mostly be trapped inside our apartment doing wifey things.

Cleaning, laundering, and cooking.

I've actually missed you!

I feel so lucky (yeah, I know that's not a Christiany word but I like to use it) that I get to serve my husband by preparing our home to be a sanctuary for him to come back to after serving and providing for me.

Also, I invited a friend over for dinner so I'm patting myself on the back for being more intentional about hosting! 

P.S. I'll be back to regular outfit posts eventually!
