How to Mix Patterns.

1. Mix patterns of different sizes (i.e. a bold graphic floral with a subtle pinstripe).

2. Mix a neutral colored pattern with a multicolored pattern.

3. Mix a simple pattern (like stripes or dots) with a more complex pattern (like floral or plaid).

4. Mix patterns that are in the same color scheme.

5. If you're gonna go crazy with color, mix subtle patterns rather than graphic patterns.

Does this help you mix patterns? It's really a lot easier than you think. Just start trying stuff on together and your eye will tell you what works!

  3. i absolutely love that first outfit! at first i was so scared to mix prints or patterns because i thought there was a science to it that i just couldn't understand, but once i finally told myself to just get over with it, i started mixing prints and never looked back! it opens up so many new possibilities for outfits!

  5. i LOVE this post! i'm starting to delve into mixing patterns and I've found the only way they REALLY look good on me (and not make me look homeless or a wannabe fashion student) is to mix subtle stripes with a busier pattern, as you said (: you, however, can pull all these looks off without a hitch! LOVE THEM!
