hunger games.

Denim Jacket: Old Navy thrifted, Tank: H&M, Necklace: Forever 21, Jeans: Kohl's, Shoes: Urban Original

When I first heard of The Hunger Games (on twitter), I thought it was a healthy eating documentary. Then when I kept hearing about how "intense" it was, I figured it had more of a story or something. Which led me to assume it was about some sort of eating competition. Like hot dogs or pie. But once I saw the trailer on TV I realized it was a totally fictional story based off of a book. And that's when I figured it had to be about people killing and then eating each other.
Needless to say, I was completely thrown off in the movie theater that night.
I will be starting book no. 1 this week.

CopyCats Week 6!

It's that time again! Time for the CopyCat link-up Here is my Pinterest-inspired look that I chose to copy:

The truth is, I could have interpreted the look more literally by pulling my hair back and wearing black flats, but since it was kinda cloudy, I wore my boots, and since my skin is breaking out, I wore my hair down.

Scarf: Charlotte Russe, Blouse: Old Navy, Boots: Kohl's, Purse: Vintage D&B

Can't wait to see what you ladies came up with this month!

what the books don't tell you pt. 2

Top: Forever 21, Necklace: H&M, Leggings: YesStyle, Shoes: Old Navy

It seems like I'm learning something new about my body or pregnancy every single day. A lot of which I've never heard or read about. Hahaha!
To read my first three tips on pregnancy (that the books leave out) click here.

1. Be prepared to answer the question "How are you feeling?" at least twenty-six times a day. WELL-meaning people will ask you this often as soon as they find out you are with child. It doesn't bug me so much that everyone asks, I just feel dumb repeating the same spiel over and over and over again.

2. Everyone knows that there are certain foods you can't eat while you're pregnant, but no one tells you that those particular foods will ALWAYS sound good.

3. You will constantly live in the tension of "Do I eat or do I sleep?" I can't seem to get enough of either of those.

ten items you're better off thrifting.

I find that most of my winter wardrobe essentials are thrifted because I layer a lot. But how cute would a floral blouse look with some high-waisted shorts this Spring?
The more I thrift, the more I realize that most of the trends out at the mall can be found for much cheaper at thrift stores and can be worn year-round. Here is my list of items that you're better off thrifting (in my opinion):

1. Cardigan Sweaters:

2. High-Waisted anything:

3. Chambray/Denim Shirt:

4. Colored Pencil Skirt:

5. Blazers:

6. Animal Prints:

7. Collared Shirt (for layering/anything):

 8. Colored Pants:

9. Floral/Patterned anything:

10. Boyfriend Sweater/Oversized anything:

All of the items pictured were thrifted (except #8 and 9). Some are vintage and some are name brand. You never know what you're gonna get!
Would you add anything to this list? Are one of the items I listed particularly difficult for you to find when you thrift?
Are you still intimidated by the musty thought of shopping for used clothing? If so, read my beginner tips here.

a bridal shower.

Denim Jacket: Old Navy thrifted, Dress: Target (old), Belt: thrifted, Clutch: H&M, Boots: Kohl's
15 Weeks Pregnant.

One of my very best friends from high school is getting married in a month and this weekend we got to celebrate her at her bridal shower!
It was so much fun, but I just couldn't stop thinking about how much time has passed and how much life has been experienced since we first became friends in high school (7 years ago!!!).
I kept thinking about how young she is to be getting married at 22, but then I'm like wait, I'm 22 and I've been married almost three years! Oh, and I'm with child...
Anyway, I'm just so proud of her and ecstatic for her to experience marriage (one of God's most amazing gifts to us) in just a few short weeks!
I'm also happy to say that life now, is so much better than it was in high school. And so much better than I ever could've imagined for myself.
Growing up is hard sometimes, but it's also incredibly rewarding!

i spent easter with my dog.

Holidays are different for us.
Especially Christmas and Easter.
Because Ian works for a church (that has 8 gatherings on Sundays) it makes it pretty impossible to spend holidays with family. Don't feel bad for us, though. We're used to it.
It's kind of fun actually, I feel like the other staff members are kind of our family on holidays because we're all at church together instead of with our other families : )
That being said, after church, my Easter consisted of photo shoots with my dog! Isn't he just the cutest?
And because you're wondering, he is almost five years old. He is not a puppy, but I don't mind that he still looks like one!
4eva cuteness!!!
Once Ian got off from work/home from church (around 9pm) we obviously went to Denny's for some milkshakes and some pancakes since that is our only standing tradition on all of our special days.
You get royal treatment at a place like that on a day like that since you're the only ones there... it's really not so bad! Or maybe I'm just telling myself that...

the way i wear my hair.

(12.5 weeks. After a big lunch).

Turtleneck: Target, Boots: Nordstrom, Purse: Vintage D&B

I'm pretty sure I went a whole year without straightening my hair.
I curled it every day.
Since being pregnant though, my hair seems really fuzzy and dry and the only way to cure it is to straighten it flat.
I'm welcoming the change.
Although, I am currently wearing my hair in it's naturally curly form. We'll see how this goes after a night of sleeping on it.

our night away.

I realized I never posted about our little getaway I mentioned a couple weeks ago!
We went and stayed at a hotel in Vancouver (just over the river from Portland).
Normally, I do not prefer Vancouver, but this is a hotel we spent the night at on a pit stop for the latter part of our honeymoon, so it's a little special.
Plus, Vancouver is close enough for a one-nighter, but far enough that it still feels like we're away.
As you can see, there was a lot of eating involved.
We obviously had breakfast for dinner at a creepy restaurant called Jollie's.
Ian grew up in Vancouver and used to go to Jollie's all the time with his mom.
The waitress even remembered him!
We spent the rest of the night at the pool and watching 24 on Netflix.
The next day we explored Vancouver.
Ate a teryaki lunch, thrifted, and then got a peanut butter smoothie at Booster Juice (which we used to have down the street from us, but they shut down).
The reason for the picture of Ian pumping the gas in because we actually never pump our own gas in Oregon. I don't even know how to do it, so for some reason I always feel the need to snap a pic of Ian when we cross the border!

the guest room.

I've been in a nesting craze as of late.
Which has led to many-a finished projects around the house.
Starting with the guest room.
It seems like I always has more vision and motivation for our guest rooms. Even beyond our master or living rooms, where we actually spend most of our time. It's kind of like I do something I really like in the guest room and wait to do something that I really love in our room. But it never happens and we're left sleeping in a slopped together bedroom resembling that of a 26 year-old bachelor while our guests get to dream in this room:

Before I show you more, let me show you what the room looked like when we moved in (mostly because I like to pat myself on the back every time I tell someone that I tore down all this wall paper myself!)

Around Christmas time, this room was furnished and we put two twin beds on both sides of that window. The headboards were this navy blue and white patterned fabric and the toss pillows were kind of pink. I hated the direction it was headed and since we found out shortly thereafter that we were pregnant, we decided this room also needed to accommodate Ian's desk space.
So we moved the beds to the back wall and brought the desk in from the other room.

Globes from Z Gallerie balancing on candlesticks.

Print inspired by this one.

The desk and shelf are from Ikea, the floor lamp was given to us from the church we work for (I think it's originally West Elm or CB2??) and the chair, brass lamp, and almost everything on the shelf were thrifted.

The headboards were these two art canvases from Michael's that I had originally painted to use in our old guest room, but I upholstered them with some batting and brown linen-type fabric for this room.
All the bedding is from Ikea and the yellow toss pillows are from Burlington Coat Factory.

Some little details on the nightstand.
And here's my awkward little pup just hanging out the whole time:

I love having guests stay in here because it's probably the prettiest room in the house right now.
I'm even tempted to sleep in here, myself because our room desperately needs a fresh coat of paint!
