new goals for a new year.

Scarf: thrifted, Chambray: thrifted, Belt: thrifted, Pants: JCPenney, Boots: Kohl's.

I know it's a like two weeks late, but I still wanted to share some new year's resolutions with you.
Goals are hard for me to put on paper because I always want to be sure that I'm committed. I remember when I was 12 my resolution was to be a woman of my word and that is still someone I long to be. Meaning, once I announce my resolutions to the world, I take them very seriously and feel pressured to obey. Who would I be if I couldn't commit to goals I set for myself??

Ok, let's get down to bid-ness:

#1. Be a better friend. I need to initiate more. I need to invite and accept invitations. I need the people I call friends, to call me a friend. I plan to be a better friend to the few that are already there. I'm never gonna be one of those people that is best friends with everybody because I take relationships too seriously. I want to invest in a few instead of flirt with a thousand. Maybe that is why I've never been good at this?? Because I almost scare myself out of it or something.

#2. Be a better blogger. I really do love this little corner of the worldwide web that I've created. I love my readers and notice each and every one of you. I know I'm a busy mom or something now, but I want to go back to returning comments and reading more of your stuff! I am sponsoring other blogs and offering more to my sponsors like Pins on Pinterest and more shoutouts and stuff!
Also, will you let me know if there is ever anything you'd like to see more of on Frills?

#3. Read more. I'm a self-proclaimed book hater, but lately I've been spotting a few that look interesting! I even asked for two (and got them) for Christmas and am asking for another for a couple more for my birthday this month! So I may venture out of magazines and blogs and into actual pages! I mean, who am I???

#4. Get active and eat healthy. Pretty straight-forward but my plans are to jog a little bit and eat a more plant-based diet.

#5. To champion the beauty of others. I will be doing a more in-depth post about this one as soon as I find the words, but I plan to give out compliments without hesitation.

#6. When I think of something nice to do for someone, do it. That might seem obvious, but I have this rare talent of talking myself out of things. Ian and I have been talking about erring on the side of loving people too much, rather than not enough.

What are your goals for this year?

  1. This is fantastical!! I'm working on my NY resolutions too! You're not the only one late to the party. It's fashionable anyway, right? :)

Hugs to you beautiful Sarah (and smooches to that little Greyer boy)

  2. Love your pants! Too cute!
Also, your resolutions are very good. I like that you want to be a better friend and blogger. I want to read more, but sometimes it's hard to find the time especially with a 7 month old.

  3. Love the idea of being a champion of beauty and giving complements freely. Such an easy way to positively influence people.

  4. I'm not typically a New Years Goal Writer but yours are so good that you've inspired me! You've also made it easy for me since several of yours really hit home for me, I may just be stealing them! :) Great post.

  6. love them all. thank you for sharing your heart. i love to hear what people's "resolutions" are each year. this year instead of resolutions we choose to pick a word to focus on through the year. to stretch us. it already has been such an experience only 2 weeks into 2013, i can not imagine where we are going to be in a year.

XO. ps. love greyer's first phone call & nose pickin instas!

  7. Love these - great goals! I haven't really made any 'resolutions' this year, but I would like to read more books and be more mindful :)

  8. I have a few concrete goals (donating blood, improve piano playing, etc.) but I've also been contemplating more attitude-related ones. And I think your #5 and #6 are amazing things to work toward. I want to be that person who lifts other people up, and I think these are two excellent ways! Somehow I am awkward at both giving and receiving compliments - inspired to work on that in 2013 now.

  9. I love your goals. They are very similar to mine. I don't have many friends for the same reason and my goal is to make sure I create smiles on their faces this year. Little things like phone calls and handwritten notes make a huge difference.

  15. I just found your blog as well. I bet you get that a lot, huh?
I love your goals. I have a similar goal of being a better friend. I need to reach out more to friends and family members. My family and I live in Sri Lanka right now, so it makes it tough to stay in touch, but I need to be better at it.
I LOVE the goal you set for championing the beauty of others. I feel there is beauty in everything, and everyone, and it doesn't hurt to hear it in a sincere compliment. What a great goal!
